A while ago, I had an "ah ha" moment of true inspiration. I'm kinda on a mission to find a healthy way to eat and live that supports not only me, but my family's needs. Something we can all agree on and live by that makes us feel clean and healthy, that is well balanced with our lives.
I've known about and have been making and experimenting with green smoothies for over a year now. I love the benefits when I consistently drink a quart of green smoothie a day, as suggested by Robyn Openshaw at greensmoothiegirl.com. We're slowly learning how to (and how not to) grow a garden. It's so rewarding! We've cut back on animal protein sources tremendously (only 1-2 meat meals per month) and trying really hard, with little success so far, to decrease and eventually cut out refined sugar! We mostly use whole wheat and I've found it substitutes very well in almost everything for white flour. I love, love, love and follow Tammie at simplehealthytasty.blogspot.com! Although I've only tried a handful of her recipes and I don't have all the "right" ingredients, I do what I can to gradually trade out the bad stuff for the good.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is to get your take on health. Are you trying to eat healthy too? What are some things you've tried? What do you know about nutrition that could help me on my journey? I have to thank my good friend Tiffany for introducing me to most of this stuff and encouraging me to learn more, read and explore and make my own decisions. I'm just trying to do what I know is best for my family. If I know more I'll be able to make wiser and more beneficial choices, right? So tell me the books you've read, the things you've learned along the way, tips and tricks and anything else to help me out! Thanks. Oh, and thanks to my mother who served cracked wheat cereal, baked homemade bread, and always had dinner at the table! Mom, you don't know how much those things mean to me.

Well, I've got nothing to offer you, but I sure do learn a lot from you when we talk about healthy eating. So, as you find things out, feel free to share them with me and maybe one day I'll figure it all out too. And thank goodness for mom!

We go through stages. Most of the time, we eat healthy. Sometimes we don't. I could type paragraphs, but will share 1 little tidbit I learned today. My midwife is giving me some knowledge about herbal supplements, and we are both learning as we go, trying to get my platelet count up to a reasonable level. Anyway, she told me that probiotics are really helpful for kids in helping them fight off illnesses and maintain a healthy immune system.
